How to Customize Affiliate Commissions and Customer Offers

Last updated March 2, 2026

Every affiliate starts with the defaults from your referral program settings. But you can override these on a per-affiliate basis — useful when you want to offer a higher commission to a top performer, or give a specific affiliate's audience a better customer offer.

To edit an affiliate's settings, go to Affiliate Program > Affiliates, click on the affiliate, and use the Affiliate Payout and Customer Offer tabs.

Affiliate Commission

This is what the affiliate earns on each referred purchase. Set it as a percentage of the order total (e.g., 10%) or a fixed dollar amount (e.g., $5). The commission is paid in Bitcoin.

Note: If you have tiered commissions enabled in your referral settings, individual affiliate commissions are managed through the tier system instead. See How to Set Up Referral Tiers for details.

Attribution Window

Controls how long after a customer clicks the affiliate's link their purchase still counts as a referral. Choose from:

  • 30 days
  • 60 days
  • 90 days (default)
  • 180 days

A longer window gives the affiliate credit for customers who take more time to purchase.

Customer Offer

This is what the customer receives when they use the affiliate's link. It can be a percentage or fixed dollar amount. Depending on your setup, this translates to either a discount on their order or Bitcoin back on their purchase.

For fixed dollar offers, a Minimum Purchase field appears. The minimum must be at least equal to the customer offer amount to protect your margins.

Eligible Products (Shopify Only)

You can control which products or collections qualify for this affiliate's customer offer:

  • All products — Everything in your store
  • Specific products — Choose individual products
  • Specific collections — Choose entire collections

If not set, the affiliate inherits the eligible items from your referral program defaults.

How Overrides Work

Your referral program settings act as the baseline for all affiliates. When you customize a setting for a specific affiliate, that override applies only to them. Any settings you don't change continue to use the program defaults.

This means you can run a standard program for most affiliates while giving select partners — like high-performing creators or strategic partners — customized terms.
